Celebrity Home Style – this is where we snoop at a celebrity’s house or room and I’ll talk you through how to recreate that look but on a more realistic budget. I’ll either find items you can buy to transform your own place or I can offer some fabulous fabrics, paints and papers if you want to get a little bit crafty and make something unique yourself. If you come across a celebrity room that you’d like me to discuss do feel free to send it in – the more the merrier!

How to Colour Your Home with Sophie Robinson

Colour Your Home with Sophie Robinson This is my post on how to colour your home with Sophie Robinson. If you can’t see the video please click here. The Great Interior Design Challenge I’m a big fan of BBC2’s The Great Interior Design Challenge so I was very excited to attend Sophie Robinson’s colour workshop recently. As a regular judge, and on the most recent series a finalist guest judge, Sophie makes no bones about the fact she is massively into colour. Shades of grey For me colour has been a bit of a taboo in recent years. When I was styling people’s rooms at university I had a crazy young thing palette.  The interiors I’ve been designing in recent years have been with the purpose of selling and it’s well known that pale, and lets face it safe colours appeal to more people. Colour is very subjective so it’s safer to go with what people are more likely to like than go for the wow but also marmite factor. Sophie even mentioned that she feels like it’s a job well done if she overhears some people saying “ooh I don’t like that, it’s too much”! I’ll be honest though and say that…

Yvonne Coomber Shows How to Add Colour to Your Home with Art

Yvonne Coomber This is my post on how to add colour to your home with art by Yvonne Coomber. If you can’t see the video please click here. Afraid of colour I’ve been accused of being way too much into muted tones. It’s true my house is a bit of a shrine to white and grey! So I’ve been working on bringing colour into my home. With this in mind, of course I jumped at the opportunity to have artist Yvonne Coomber. I’ve always loved her work, it’s just so full of colour and happiness. Nothing prepared me though for the impact her pieces would have on some of the rooms. Meet the artist Yvonne is one of those people who oozes happiness. When she and her husband arrived at my front door they seemed to bring an air of calm with them. We started by looking at what we could add to my snug. This is a room I’ve tried to make feel a bit like a conservatory with lots of plants. It’s still quite plain though. We put up Yvonne’s Summertime Kisses which she described as a ‘celebration of the foxgloves, the campions and the daisies doing their thing in…

How to Up-cycle a Pine Table

Up-cycling for cheapskates For someone like me the up-cycling fashion is a dream come true. I’ve been doing it since I was old enough to hold a paint brush anyway, so the fact my passion now makes me ‘on trend’ as opposed to a cheapskate is quite exciting. Secondhand furniture shops have always thrilled me more than they probably should. As I enter I can smell potential in the air. I think if I had a perfume that is what it would be called ‘Potential’ and it would be a combination of stale smoke, mustiness and general damp… gap in the market right there. The idea of picking up something for next-to-nothing and perhaps even haggling to get it for even closer-to-nothing is way too much excitement. I have to have a word with myself in case my lack of poker face just gives too much away and I end up paying further-away-from-nothing. I must point out that I do draw the line at haggling at charity shops… So possibly the memory I will have on my death bed will be the day I walked away with two tables and 16 chairs that people had left in their drive (don’t…

3 Simple Ways to Get a Kardashian Style Interior

Kardashian home shoot I’m afraid I’ve misled you already. This guide is actually going to spill over into exteriors as well as interiors – you would possibly think posteriors too being about the Kardashians, but you would be wrong. Last month Architectural Digest featured a home shoot with Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian and there are two spaces I want to share with you to give some inspiration. One was inside and one was outside. As we don’t have Californian weather I feel I am covering all necessary bases here. Please excuse me, but I have got quite excited by the ability to wear my coat without the zip done up the past couple of days, which in my book, as a Brit, is practically summer. The first is what looks like their lounge area. It’s probably one of several, but let’s just pretend it’s where they sit to watch Corrie. The 3 simple ways come later, but first some bits as an amuse-bouche. Blingy mirror Now the mirror is obviously the main feature of the room, and a little too blingy for me anyway, but I’m going to do a blog on mirrors next week, so I’ll be covering how to…
